Right now, I'm on JRiver I'm trying to figure out if 27 is a worthwhile upgrade. LilyAarseth World Citizen Posts: I was a loyal winamp fan since my computer ran windows 98, but after a friend introduced me to JRiver on multiple occasions I was eventually won over a few years ago, never looked back once I learned how powerful this player is. Features I now cannot live without: - Remote library from another server computer running JRiver - Ability to edit the tag data and update the files on the remote computer as seamless as if they were on a local drive, except for album art feature request maybe?
Making music discovery so much easier. I don't have local music on my mobile devices anymore, because streaming them from my computer running JRiver is so seamless I forget it's not local files. These are the ones on top of my head. I use it mainly at home because it plays everything and has a nice ten foot interface Theater View.
We recently started using it at work together with employee monitoring software because of how good it works. It works so well with various networks and remotely. I found JRiver many years ago and was so delighted with the product. It does everything I want and more. Yes, there are many free products out there, but none that does so many things well. Well for the music got all my music on pc. Don't need a stereo if I got it all at my fingertips or mouse pointer lol. Good pc soundcard and boxes who need more thumbs up for this program! Kal Member Posts: 1. Other than JRiver being a stellar media center, including everything that has already been mentioned in the posts above Believe it or not, the fact that Soundspectrum's visualizations 'G-Force' and 'Aeon' work flawlessly with the Music part of the program, was decisive in my buying it.
I've gotten a lot of help here. I hope I can give some help back, too. Lunatique World Citizen Posts: Prior to using Jukebox, I had used many other well-known and obscure music librarians, and Jukebox was just the most feature-rich and responsive. Very, very few other music librarians have this feature, and if they do, they are missing other features important to me.
This has saved me a ton of time in customizing playlists based on the exact parameters of my choosing. I was always interested in Music. And started using mp3 early, because only in this way I could get to know a lot of different music.
But it was mostly popular music. Since then I have purchased JRiver on a regular basis. Now in my older days I use it more for Movie watching, and it really it the best allround player that I know about. It delivers excellent quality audio and video experience. I am so glad that I found it early on. Very good Streaming Features DI. Very active Expert Community. I have a relatively big library: about I decided to give JRiver a trial run in late October The trial went as planned, where I was able to confirm an almost replication of video quality compared to the UDP Kodi is configured to use MC28 as an external player.
The setup is phenomenal and I often find myself browsing the library and clicking play to see the screen go blank, then onto the film via MC The only thing missing is Dolby Vision playback. My wife says we need to upgrade old CD player. Family not watching TV together, everyone using their own media. What to do?
What are these media players streaming music services? I see. Check the different ones from google search, and compare. Monthly payment, no. I realize JRiver does music and video, and it's pay once at least for version. Okay, try it out. Initially a bit confusing, so not sure. But I liked how it categorized everything. Set it up to my digital interface. Pity no Netflix internal, but I get why. Now I pay.
Keep exploring, set up virtual driver, set up VST plugins, realizing I really like this. Discover support forum and realize the community are all focused on getting real quality audio and video.
I am in the right place, I realize. Discovering on the net that JRiver is the best at audio and video both, as long as you can handle the clunky interface. I love it. Windows 10, HP laptop, external screen via Display port. Dolby Atmos for Headphones, for Netflix. Thanks to user antenna for posting the following: "To gain competitive advantage you have to do what no one else is doing or do whatever it is they're doing so much better than they are, that you're doing what no one else is doing anyway.
The herd only provides the illusion of well-being. MickB Recent member Posts: 5. You could give the free trial a go and see how it handles it. I've been super happy with my lifetime subscription, but I got in before the price increases.
However, if I was presented with that option now, I would still do it. DyersEve , Jun 29, Rolltide likes this. Location: Katy, TX. I use JRiver, but it's more of Swiss Army knife than it is strictly for music. I use it mostly for audio, but my brother uses it mostly for video. You can link a tablet or a smart phone to control it, so you don't really need to output to video to play music, but it's best to use the video interface for setting it up.
As far as setting it up, you could consult the forums at the JRiver for instructions on how to set it up. There are countless thread there. And if you can't find what you're looking for ask, somebody will have a solution. But JRiver is really nice if you want to cue up albums.
It's really easy to add albums or songs at the end of the playlist. You could get a streaming deck, but I have computers laying around and JRiver will run on even the most modest systems. It'll run on a raspberry pi, so really it doesn't need much at all. Yes it does take some time to get it work properly, but once you have it set up, it's easy to maintain and just works really well.
Kal Rubinson , gd0 and wolfyboy3 like this. Location: Miami, FL. I have used Plex, JRiver, and Roon. Just get Roon. Yeah, its a little expensive but you may never need another piece of software for your music. The highest tier Audirvana looks very comparable to Roon, but I have not used. DustyRobes , Jun 29, Location: USA. Stereosound , Jun 29, Location: Halifax, N. I found J-River great for that purpose but was tired of having a separate routine for using Spotify as I started streaming more and more.
Both J-River and Roon handled my whole house streaming duties mostly well with some expected hiccups along the way. But Roon still handles all my whole home streaming when I need that as well.
I still use J-River as kind of a back up system should Roon have any issues. The Roon user interace is much prettier J-River can be intimidatingly "computer-ish". I hope my story helps with your choice. Reckoner , Jun 29, Location: Vallejo, CA. Rolltide , Jun 29, Location: Savage. Roon hands down is the winner.
F2k is a good free solution but really clunky in my view. JRiver tagging is perfectly simple to use. I miss it. The downside of JRiver is they won't ever work with anyone else and won't even entertain the idea. No integration with internet streaming. No integration with sending the output stream to another software upsampler. Their answers are always a hard no to any external innovation involving sharing. Audirvana, the old version not studio, works but it doesn't really integrate your library with streaming.
They are two different categories. You search your library or you search your streaming but not both at the same time. Roon does all that, except easy tagging. It works with external vendors unlike JRiver. Search a song or artist and it searches everywhere, your library and your streaming connection and then returns all options. And you can save searches as bookmarks.
